From Melbourne '06 |
I haven't found out why yet, but Christmas greetings are dolled out mostly as 'happy' versus 'merry' here. Just one of many cultural nuances to adjust to as I travel.
Sending holiday greetings from deep down under in Melbourne (located on the southern edge of the eastern half of the country). Interestingly, the forecast called for a small chance of snow today. No snow, but a different type of frozen precipitation materialized - hail. It was just a brief instance of the marble sized ice cubes amongst a day alternating between rain and flashes of sun.
While it made for a bit of a dreary day (one that would be perfect for sitting inside and watching football games, but they don't air here until tomorrow when it's Christmas in the U.S.), it was a welcome gift to the Melbourne area which has been besieged by major bush fires for the better part of this month thanks to the worst drought on record that's currently gripping the country.
Just a couple more days exploring Melbourne, then back to Sydney for New Year's Eve festivities.
Happy Holidays and hope everyone is enjoying time with friends and family wherever you are.
